A soil test tells you:

pH level
Nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium
Organic matter content
Micronutrient levels
Most crops prefer slightly acidic soil (around 6.0–6.8 pH).

Correcting pH alone can dramatically improve nutrient uptake without adding extra fertilizer.
